============== Setting up for a serial console ============== Setting up a serial console on the HP9000/380 is extremely easy. Regardless of whether or not a keyboard and/or display board is installed in the system, the following method will work. o Connect the HP's CPU board serial to a terminal or another computer's serial port. Connecting the serial line to a PC compatible machine normally requires a Null-MODEM converter or cable. o Set communications on the "terminal" end to 9600/8/1. o Power up the HP. o Once you hear the initial two beeps (about 5-6 seconds after power-up), press RETURN a few times. The HP's BOOT ROM will automatically switch to serial-console mode. It's that simple. It wasn't clear to me from FAQ information read elsewhere that simply pressing RETURN on the *SERIAL* line would cause this to happen. ============== Setting the drive ID of the boot drive for NetBSD ==============
